Vargas, Batz Pick Up NECC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Senior Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) and sophomore Lucas Batz (Jacksonville, N.C.) of the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team have been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, announced the league office Monday.
Vargas netted a pair of goals in the Lions' 3-2 setback against Emerson before adding an assist in a 1-1 draw against Salve Regina.
This season, Vargas is one of three players to start all nine matches and ranks second on the team with seven points and three goals.
Batz made his collegiate debut and first career start between the pipes in a 1-1 tie against Salve Regina and finished with five saves. He notched his first clean sheet and registered nine saves in his second-straight start to help Eastern Nazarene post a 0-0 draw at UMass-Boston.
The Lions owns a 1-4-4 overall record and returns to the pitch October 4 to face Framingham State.
