Men’s Soccer Blanked at Gordon Saturday Night in Season-Opener
WENHAM, Mass.- Sixteen months removed from its first-ever New England Collegiate Conference title and NCAA Tournament berth, the Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team returned to the pitch with a 6-0 loss at Gordon Saturday evening.
The Lions drop to 0-1-0 to start the season while the Fighting Scots improve to 1-0-0 overall with the result.
Gordon grabbed the game's opening goal in the 27th minute to snag a 1-0 lead. Jarvin Ramirez netted his first goal of the year as he finished off a feed from Chase Gwynn.
At the half, the hosts clung to a 1-0 advantage after outshooting the visitors 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes of action.
The Fighting Scots doubled their lead to 2-0 with a score in the 57th minute. Isaac Bennett bagged his first marker of the season as he booted home a rebound.
Gordon widened the margin to 3-0 in the 60th minute on Gwynn's first tally of the year.
The home team tacked on its third goal of the second half to push its lead to 4-0 in the 62nd minute as Ramirez notched his second goal of the match and Gwynn picked up his second assist of the night.
The Fighting Scots extended their advantage to 5-0 as Bernard Ocansey buried a pass from Nate Boyer to collect his first marker of the season in the 68th minute.
Gordon increased its lead to 6-0 on a tally by George Coogan IV as Micah Rickard provided the assist.
Eastern Nazarene managed five shots on the evening with three on goal. The hosts registered 15 shots in the match and fired 10 on target.
Bryan Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) paced the Lions with two shots on goal in the contest while Didac Gomes Castellvi (Tarragona, Spain) recorded the visitors' other attempt of frame.
Rookie goalkeeper Antonio Soto Valente (Maracaibo, Venezuela) made four saves in his collegiate debut.
