WORCESTER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the 2019 season Monday evening, prevailing 3-0 at Worcester State.
The Lions improve to 1-1-0 on the fall with the win while the Lancers fall to 0-2-0 overall.
The visitors quickly established an early two-goal advantage in the seventh minute of play. Leon Zaffonato (Canela, Brazil) netted his first goal of the season before Charlie Swann (London, England) notched his team-leading third tally just 15 seconds later.
Eastern Nazarene tacked on its third goal of the opening stanza in the 38th minute as Jose Ruiz (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain) collected his first marker of the fall.
The Lions fired 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of action while limiting the home side to three attempts.
The guests' defense held strong in the second half to secure the squad's first clean sheet of the year.
Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) registered three saves in his second start of the fall. Tim Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) made his season debut with a 30-minute shutout effort in a relief goalkeeping appearance.
Eastern Nazarene produced 17 shots on the night while Worcester State finished with eight shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks earned.
Looking ahead, the Lions will host Suffolk September 4 in the first home match of the season.
