BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's soccer team wrapped a stretch of eight-consecutive road matches with a 3-0 setback at Emerson Monday evening.
The Eastern Nazarene Lions move to 2-7-1 overall while the Emerson Lions improve 3-6-0 on the year.
At the break, the two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie. The home side owned a 9-1 advantage in first-half shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks earned.
Emerson snagged a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute as Avery Niles netted his first goal of the season. Arturo Ruiz sent a free kick into the box and Niles volleyed in the game's opening score.
The hosts doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 71st minute. Paul Bou Aziz picked up his second tally of the fall as he redirected a free kick delivery by Ryan Anderson.
Emerson tacked on its third goal of the second stanza in the 89th minute to cap off the scoring. Bou Aziz buried his second marker of the night as he finished off a corner kick served into the box by Chris Williams.
Eastern Nazarene registered six shots in the contest while Emerson manufactured 19 attempts.
Sebastian Arboleda (Barranquilla, Colombia), Edmilson Centeio (New Bedford, Mass.), and Jose Ruiz (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain) each fired one shot on frame in the match.
Junior netminder Victor Mendoza (Cathedral City, Calif.) made four stops in his third start of the fall before rookie Tyler Ferreira (Berkley, Mass.) came on in relief for his second appearance of the year.
