Men’s Basketball Suffers 81-59 Setback at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team absorbed an 81-59 loss at Gordon Saturday afternoon.
The Lions fall to 4-7 on the year and 0-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Fighting Scots improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league competition with the win.
David Lopez (Miami, Fla.) paced the team with 14 points and grabbed four rebounds while Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) finished with 13 points. Noah Cheney (Bend, Ore.) chipped in with nine points and Trey'von Davis (Moore, S.C.) recorded six points and seven boards.
The visitors got off to a fast start to the game, opening up a 12-5 lead 3:24 into the contest.
The home team responded with a 19-3 run to claim a 24-15 advantage with 8:33 remaining in the first half.
Gordon extended its lead to 15 with under a minute left to play in the opening frame as Garrisson Duvivier banked in a put-back layup, 37-22.
Eastern Nazarene trailed the Fighting Scots 37-22 at the break.
The Lions shot 40% from the floor and drained 2-of-3 three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes of action. Gordon owned a field-goal percentage of 50% at halftime and connected on 1-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Lopez paced the guests with seven points and four rebounds in the first half while Rice netted five points.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 49-39 with 13:39 left to play in regulation on a bucket by Lopez.
The hosts extended their lead to 22 as Jake Haar drilled a trey with 6:27 to go in the contest, 73-51.
The Lions concluded the game with a field-goal percentage of 30.7% to go with 26.1% shooting from three-point distance. The Fighting Scots shot 54% from the floor and 45.5% from long range on the day.
Eric Demers poured in 20 points to lead Gordon while Duvivier tallied 15 points and hauled in eight boards.
