
Men’s Basketball Falls at Wentworth, 71-47
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College men's basketball team dropped a 71-47 decision at Wentworth Tuesday evening.
The Lions dip to 9-11 on the year and 6-7 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the setback. The Leopards improve to 9-11 overall and 7-6 in league action with the win.
Christian Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished with 15 points, five assists, and five rebounds to lead the visitors. David Eddings (Endicott, N.Y.) poured in 11 points and grabbed four boards. Patrick Michel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) chipped in with seven points off the bench.
The hosts galloped out to a 12-4 lead with 15:23 remaining in the first half as Dan Devaux netted eight early points.
Wentworth widened the gap to 13 with 12:48 left to play in the opening stanza on a layup by Stephen Azums, 21-8.
The Leopards extended their advantage to 38-18 as Devaux sank three free throws with 1:06 to go in the first frame.
Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to 38-21 just before the halftime intermission as Lynch powered in a layup before converting a free throw.
The Lions opened the second half with an 8-0 run to trim the margin to nine with 16:54 remaining on a layup by Eddings, 38-29.
Wentworth reclaimed a 20-point lead with 2:54 left to play on a basket by Azums, 65-45.
The Leopards outscored the Lions 6-2 down the stretch to hand Eastern Nazarene its fourth-straight loss.
The Lions concluded the contest with a field-goal percentage of 28.3% while being limited to just 1-for-13 shooting from long distance. The Leopards shot 48.1% from the floor and 35.3% from the perimeter.
Devaux paced Wentworth with 24 points while Azums added 17 points off the bench.
