Baseball Notches 11-7 Victory at Nichols Sunday
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team earned an 11-7 win at Nichols Sunday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 20-16-1 on the season with the victory while the Bison fall to 17-16-1 overall.
Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) posted three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) finished with three hits and three runs scored. Steven Pesce (Harrison, N.Y.) collected a pair of base knocks, four RBIs, and one run scored.
The visitors tallied two runs in the top of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead as Landeiro launched a two-run home run to drive in Bean.
The home side chalked up two runs in the bottom of the frame to level the contest at 2-2.
Eastern Nazarene generated four runs in the second to claim a 6-2 advantage. Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to knock in Hunter Leroux-Porter (Greenland, N.H.) from third base. Landeiro laced a single to plate Juan Jacobo Lopez (San Diego, Calif.) before Pesce roped a base knock to score Bean and Landeiro.
The Lions tacked on a run in the top of the fifth to widen the gap to 7-2. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) tagged up and motored home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Anderson Jimenez (Lowell, Mass.).
Nichols produced a pair of runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-4.
The guests manufactured three runs in the sixth to stretch their lead to 10-4. Pesce scorched a single up the middle to drive in Bean and Guerrero. Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) lasered a single to right-centerfield to plate Pesce from second base.
The Bison picked up a run in the sixth inning to narrow the margin to 10-5.
Eastern Nazarene regained a six-run advantage with a run in the eighth, 11-5. Roldan crossed the dish as Jacobo Lopez reached on an error.
The hosts managed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to pull to within four, 11-7.
Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) pitched four innings and recorded two strikeouts. Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla.) hurled one inning of relief and registered one strikeout. Morgan Weast (Cincinnati, Ohio) worked four innings of relief and fanned two batters.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene wraps up the regular season May 3 against Salem State.
