Baseball Drops 5-4 Decision at UMass-Boston
BOSTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team suffered a 5-4 setback at UMass-Boston Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions fall to 16-14-1 on the season with the result while the Beacons improve to 20-6 overall.
Tyler Bean (Wellington, Fla.) notched a pair of hits, one RBI, and two runs scored. Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) landed one hit and drove in two RBIs. Brandon Guerrero (Boston, Mass.) finished with one base knock, one run scored, and one stolen base. Frank Landeiro (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in with one hit and one run scored.
The home team tallied one run in the bottom of the first inning to nab a 1-0 edge. Steve Brookwell crossed the dish as Aidan Blake grounded into a double play.
The visitors produced a pair of runs in the third to claim a 2-1 lead. Bean roped a triple to centerfield to drive in Guerrero from second base. Bean scampered home as Landeiro reached on an error.
UMass-Boston chalked up three runs in the bottom of the frame to capture a 4-2 advantage. Drew Metzdorf doubled to left field to plate Brookwell. Luke Leavitt laced a single to knock in Metzdorf with one out. With the bases loaded, Kevin Carrera drew a walk to score Blake from third.
Eastern Nazarene knotted the contest at 4-4 with two runs in the fifth. McNamara raked a single to right-centerfield to drive in Bean and Landeiro.
The Beacons regained a one-run edge, 5-4, as Metzdorf stole home in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Spencer Boynton (Tampa, Fla.) pitched six innings and posted five strikeouts. Briley Seiter (Bellevue, Ky.) worked two scoreless innings of relief and fanned three batters.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play with a crucial doubleheader at New England College April 23.
