Daniel Rivera Earns NECC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Accolades
MANSFIELD, Mass.- Senior right-handed pitcher Daniel Rivera (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) of the Eastern Nazarene College baseball team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Pitcher of the Week, announced the league office Monday.
Rivera compiled a 1-1 record on the mound with one save in his first two starts and three appearances of the season.
He hurled a complete-game shutout and racked up a career-high 13 strikeouts while allowing just three hits as the Lions blanked Wentworth 2-0.
In game one of Eastern Nazarene's doubleheader with Manhattanville, Rivera made his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen. The senior slammed the door with one inning of relief while recording a pair of strikeouts to pick up his first save of the spring as the Lions prevailed 10-8.
Rivera returned to the hill in game two of Eastern Nazarene's twinbill versus the Valiants as he made his second start of the year, throwing 2.1 innings and fanning five batters.
Last week, Rivera was tabbed to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for his performance against Wentworth.
The Lions boast a 4-1 overall record and will continue play at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach S.C. March 2 as they take on Christopher Newport.
