DUDLEY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College baseball team dropped a pair of contests at Nichols Saturday afternoon to close out the 2016 campaign. The Lions suffered a 2-1 setback in game one and a 12-0 loss in the second game.
The Lions finish with a 15-25 overall record and a 2-14 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Bison improve to 22-14 on the year and 9-5 in league play with the outcomes.
Jeremy Wagner (Oklahoma City, Okla.) landed three hits to lead Eastern Nazarene while Brandon Wynne (New Haven, Conn.) posted two base knocks, including a home run, on the day.
The Lions suffered a heart-breaking loss in game one as Nichols walked off with a 2-1 victory.
Eastern Nazarene captured a 1-0 edge in the second inning as Wynne belted his team-leading third home run of the season.
The Bison plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the win. With two runners in scoring position, Tim Ford laced a single to left to drive in Chris Anderson and Nick Roy.
Ragan Cole (Alamogordo, N.M.) threw his first complete game of the season and struck out two batters.
In the series finale, Nichols collected 16 hits as it cruised to a 12-0 win.
The hosts tallied a pair of runs to grab a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Ford launched a two-run homer to also score Benjamin Harrow.
The Bison chalked up five runs in the third to widen the margin to 7-0. Nick Osma, Brendan Martin, Joe Assenza and Roy all notched RBI base knocks in the frame.
Nichols added five runs to push its advantage to 12-0 in the fifth inning. Ford crossed the dish as Assenza reached on an error before Cam Cook and Matt Hardy each picked up RBI singles. Roy drove in Hardy and Ross Caswell with a two-out triple to right-center.
Cameron Fiorentino (Uxbridge, Mass.) tossed 4.1 innings and recorded one strikeout in his team-best ninth start of the year. Rob Dukes (Spencer, Mass.) worked two-thirds of an inning and Kenny Sorensen (Quincy, Mass.) hurled one frame in his staff-high 14th relief outing.
