The 1970-1971 Men’s Basketball Team had a record year. At the King’s Tournament, they took first place and Clarke Adams, Don Eads, and Ron Bradley were elected to the All-Tournament Team. At the N.C.C.A.A Finals in Chattanooga they took second place and Ron Bradley was chosen as Most Valuable Player for the tournament. They ended the season with an overall record of 26-5 – Highest single-season wins total in program history. With 19 of those wins in a row – they held the record for longest winning-streak in program history.

They regularly scored over 100 points a game, 109 against Robert Wesleyan, 116 against Gordon, 126 against King’s College and 113 against Gordon. This was helped by the spirit of optimism and confidence the players had in each other. Rick Reyenger joined the team after Christmas break and the 19 game winning streak began. He was the leading rebounder and big man for the Crusader defense. Ron Bradley, junior guard, started the season with 1,129 career points. Don Eads, junior guard, finished third in junior college scoring in the nation during his sophomore year. Bradley and Eads were two of the best shooters in the country, long distance and inside. Don Constantine, sophomore forward, was selected for The Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic Team the year before. Jeff Davidson, junior center, was previously on the All-Eastern Michigan All-Star team. Mark Sanford, sophomore guard, averaged 20 points per game during his freshman year on JV. Ray Shannon, sophomore guard, was an outstanding defender and ball handler, averaging 13.9 points and 5.3 rebounds during his freshman year. Steve Shoff, junior point guard, was a team leader and excelled at ball handling and passing. Bill Whitman and Tom Gunsales were freshman guards, both left handed with good jump shots. Bill was MVP of his high school team and Tom was on the All Northern League All-Star Team. Clarke Adams was a freshman forward who played like a veteran on both ends of the floor.
