Eastern Nazarene College Inducts 2015 Carroll F. Bradley Hall of Fame Class
QUINCY, Mass.- Four former Eastern Nazarene College standout student-athletes were enshrined in the Carroll F. Bradley Hall of Fame during the 2015 Homecoming festivities.
Clay Halliday, Rebecca (Welch) Long, Lois Malvesti and Rodney Thomas In Memoriam all became the newest members of the Carroll F. Bradley Hall of Fame.
Halliday starred on the baseball diamond and basketball court for the Crusaders from 1979 to 1983. He earned NCCAA All-America Honorable Mention as a senior at Eastern Nazarene.
Halliday is one of only three players in school history to amass 2,000 career points as he ranks third all-time with 2,001 points.
He returned to his alma mater in 1986 to coach the Crusaders’ baseball team for five seasons, leading the squad to 22 wins.
Long was a standout basketball and softball player at Eastern Nazarene from 2003 to 2007. She graduated as the women’s basketball program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,662 career points.
Long was a four-time All-Commonwealth Coast Conference performer for the women’s basketball team and a two-time All-CCC honoree for the softball team. She was named to the All-CCC second team in basketball as a sophomore and senior and received All-CCC honorable mention as a freshman and junior. Long picked up back-to-back All-CCC second team accolades in softball as a sophomore and junior.
She played a pivotal role in helping the Crusaders make back-to-back playoff appearances in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
The 2006-07 ENC Female Athlete of the Year, Long capped off her playing career with 908 rebounds, 347 steals and 226 assists on the court to go with her 1,662 points. On the diamond, she landed 110 hits, drove in 65 RBIs and also pitched 165 innings.
After graduating from Eastern Nazarene in 2007, Long returned to her alma mater in the spring of 2009 to serve as the head coach of the softball program for two years. In her first season at the helm, she guided the Crusaders to the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs.
Malvesti suited up for the Eastern Nazarene women’s basketball and volleyball teams from 1977 to 1981. During her career, the Crusaders’ volleyball team racked up 108 victories and the women’s basketball team won 54 games.
She propelled the Crusaders’ powerhouse volleyball program to three consecutive MAIAW Tournament finals and helped the team to capture the 1977 and 1979 crowns. In 1979, Malvesti was named the MAIAW Division II Most Valuable Player and to the New England Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading Eastern Nazarene to the championship.
Malvesti played a key role in guiding the Crusaders to the 1977-78 MAIAW Tournament title. As a junior in 1979-80, she was named to the WCIA All-Tournament Team after Eastern Nazarene suffered a one-point loss in the championship contest.
Thomas will be inducted into the Carroll F. Bradley Hall of Fame posthumously after passing away in 2014.
He led the Crusaders in scoring during his junior and senior seasons and also served as a team captain as a senior.Thomas played four seasons for the Eastern Nazarene men’s basketball team from 1984-89. His 1,662 career points rank him seventh on the program’s all-time scoring list. Thomas gathered 409 rebounds and dished out 232 assists in his career.
A total of 16 individuals and three teams have been enshrined in the Carroll F. Bradley Hall of Fame since its inception in 1994.
