Women’s Volleyball Falls in Five Sets at Plymouth State
PLYMOUTH, N.H.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 setback at Plymouth State Wednesday evening.
The Lions slip to 1-5 on the year with the result while the Panthers improve to 3-0 overall.
Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) racked up a team-high 16 kills to go with 11 digs to record her first collegiate double-double. Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y.) posted a career-best 10 kills and added three blocks. Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) chipped in with nine digs, six kills, and five assists. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) chalked up 25 assists to go along with three kills and three digs on the night. Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) registered a team-best 14 digs in the match.
The visitors captured a 1-0 lead in the match after triumphing 25-17 in the opening set.
Eastern Nazarene squeezed past Plymouth State 25-23 in the second to stretch the gap to 2-0.
The home team battled back and cruised to a 25-14 win in the third frame, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The Panthers pulled even at 2-2 with a 25-20 decision in the fourth game to force a winner-take-all fifth set.
Plymouth State posted a 15-9 victory in the fifth set to secure the come-from-behind win.
Elsa MacNeill paced the hosts with 13 kills while Lindsey Sanderson recorded nine kills and Nora Ryan tallied eight. Alexa Price notched 39 assists, 16 digs, and six kills while Marissa Plaza also contributed with 16 digs.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host the ENC Invitational September 10 and 111 at the newly-redesigned Lahue Athletic Center. The Lions will face Regis September 10 before squaring off against Husson and Colby-Sawyer September 11.
