Women’s Volleyball Posts Key Victory at Elms, 3-1
CHICOPEE, Mass.- Behind stellar performances by Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.), the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team picked up a crucial 3-1 win at Elms Friday evening.
The Lions elevate to 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference with the victory. The Blazers drop to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in league play with the outcome.
Aguilar notched her second triple-double of the year, finishing with 18 kills, 17 assists, and 13 digs. McCarthy racked up 16 kills, 17 digs, and a pair of service aces. Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) dished out 18 assists on the night while Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) tallied 17 digs.
The guests vaulted ahead 1-0 in the match with a 25-21 win in the first set before the home team battled back to narrwlly claim the second set 25-23 to knot the match at 1-1.
Eastern Nazarene rolled to a 25-16 decision in the third to regain a one-set advantage, 2-1.
The Lions sealed their second conference win of the season with a 27-25 victory in the fourth game.
Jaylianne Ramos paced Elms with 26 kills and 19 digs while Kianna Lozada recorded 26 digs in the match.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene heads to Beantown to battle Emmanuel October 3 in non-league play.
