Women’s Volleyball Drops Midweek Match to Southern Maine, 3-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to the University of Southern Maine Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions move to 0-2 on the season with the outcome while the Huskies improve to 3-1 overall.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) and Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) both registered triple-doubles for the home team. McCarthy racked up 24 kills to go with 18 assists and 11 digs while Aguilar notched 21 kills, 22 assists, and 13 digs to go with three aces.
Amya Altman (Butler, Pa.) paced Eastern Nazarene defensively with 14 digs while Gabrielle DiCamillo (Eighty-Four, Pa.) chipped in with 10 digs.
The guests claimed a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win in the opening set. Southern Maine doubled its advantage to 2-0 after prevailing 25-21 in the second game.
The Lions battled back to earn a 25-20 victory in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Huskies rebounded with a narrow 25-23 win in the fourth frame to seal their third victory of the year.
Kacey Foerster led Southern Maine with 16 kills while Jamie Jannarone finished with 14 kills and Sophie Lindsay dished out 39 assists.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host the ENC Invitational September 6 and 7.
