Women’s Volleyball’s Ruth Aguilar Represents Honduras at International Tournaments
Rising sophomore Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) of the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team competed with the Honduras Under-20 and Under-23 National Teams at in international play this summer. Aguilar helped Honduras capture sixth at the U20 Women's Pan American Cup in Lima, Peru before a fourth-place finish at the Under-23 Central American Championship in Managua, Nicaragua.
Aguilar saw action in all nine matches during the tournaments and racked up a combined 61 points with 45 kills, nine service aces, and seven blocks.
"I'm so excited for Ruth to have the opportunity to play for Honduras' national teams. Ruth started most of the sets that Honduras played in these tournaments so I know she got a lot of reps and a lot more experience," said ENC women's volleyball head coach Derek Schmitt. "College coaches want their players to play a bunch in the summer, whether indoors or on the beach or grass. Ruth has had the opportunity to play in two high-level international competitions since school ended in May and I'm confident those two experiences will help her come back to ENC ready to play at an even higher level than she did as a freshman."
