No. 1 Seed Women’s Volleyball Rolls Past No. 8 Mitchell in NECC Quarterfinals
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team topped Mitchell 3-0 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions, the top seed in the conference playoffs, improve to 19-6 on the season and advance to the NECC Tournament semifinals. The Mariners, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, fall to 3-17 overall.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) racked up 16 kills and 12 digs. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished with 25 assists, 10 digs, and seven kills. Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) collected 11 digs while Jenna Meacham (Millington, Mich.) added five kills.
The home team rattled off a 25-11 victory in the opening set to establish a 1-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene extended its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-19 decision in the second frame.
The Lions cruised to a 25-10 win in the third to secure the sweep.
Ariana Carter paced Mitchell with 10 kills while Cameron Childs registered 23 assists.
