Women’s Volleyball Garners Two All-NECC First Team Selections; Ruth Aguilar Voted NECC Rookie of the Year
MARSHFIELD, Mass.- Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) of the Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Year and earned All-Conference first team honors along with Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.), announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Sophomore Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) was selected to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Aguilar was tabbed the NECC Rookie of the Week five times this fall and also picked up three Player of the Week nods while McCarthy is a two-time NECC Player of the Week honoree.
Aguilar ranked second in the conference with 3.52 kills-per-set in conference matches this season. She also paced the league with 0.90 service-aces-per-set and ranked second with 4.7 points-per-set in conference action.
McCarthy ranked in the top-10 in kills-per-set with 2.78, 0.59 aces-per-set, and 3.4 points-per-set in league competition.
The Lions boast an 18-6 overall record and finished tied for first-place in the NECC standings with an 8-1 mark. Eastern Nazarene will host No. 8 seed Mitchell Tuesday, October 30 in the NECC Tournament quarterfinals.
