First-Place Women’s Volleyball Rolls to 3-0 Win at Newbury
BROOKLINE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory at Newbury Wednesday evening.
The Lions improve to 15-5 on the season and remain atop the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) standings with a 6-0 mark. The Nighthawks dip to 2-14 overall and 0-6 in league play with the result.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) paced the squad with 13 kills, 14 digs, and four service aces. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted 10 kills, 16 assists, and nine digs on the night. Halle Julian (Whitman, Mass.) chipped in with six kills while Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) recorded 12 assists and nine digs.
The visitors captured the opening set 25-17 to grab a 1-0 lead after the two teams traded the final seven points of the frame.
Eastern Nazarene doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-12 decision in the second set.
The Lions tallied six of the final seven points to clinch the third set 25-11 to lock up their sixth-consecutive conference win.
Monica Bolduk led Newbury with seven kills while Sophia Ortiz collected 30 digs.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene returns home October 20 to square off against Lesley in a NECC match and Fisher in a non-conference clash.
