Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Suffolk for Fifth-Straight Win
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team extended its winning-streak to five matches with a 3-0 victory over Suffolk Thursday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions improve to 5-2 on the season while the Rams fall to 1-4 overall.
Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) paced all players with 14 kills on the night to go with nine digs. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) posted seven kills and 16 assists in the match. McKenzie Walling (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished with 15 digs and four service aces. Samantha Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) registered 12 assists while Jessica Caldwell (Quincy, Mass.) notched 14 digs.
In the opening frame, the home team outscored the visitors 6-1 down the stretch to claim a 25-17 win to grab a 1-0 edge.
Eastern Nazarene tallied the last three points of the second set to prevail 25-16 and double its lead to 2-0.
The Lions raced out to a 21-12 lead and push its advantage to 24-14 in the third. Suffolk fended off match point six times to cut the deficit to 24-20. The hosts sealed the victory with a kill by Rebecca Thorne (Quincy, Mass.) to clinch the set 25-20.
Kayla Barbera recorded a team-high nine kills and added 10 digs for the Rams while Dakhensey Marcellus racked up 17 digs and Talia Lombardo dished out 24 assists.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene travels to Massachusetts Maritime for a non-conference bout September 17.
