Women’s Volleyball Triumphs in First-Ever Match Against Nichols, 3-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team knocked off Nichols 3-1 in a crucial conference matchup Tuesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
The Lions improve to 5-13 on the year and 1-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Bison fall to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in league play with the result.
Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) finished with a team-high nine kills to go with a pair of blocks. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) chipped in with six kills, three service aces and 11 digs while Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) also recorded six kills on the night. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) notched 26 assists, nine digs and three kills in the contest. Monica Ly (Quincy, Mass.) paced Eastern Nazarene defensively with 16 digs.
The home side prevailed 25-19 in the opening set to claim a 1-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene edged Nichols 25-20 in the second game to extend its advantage to 2-0 in the match.
The Bison charged back to capture the third frame 25-13, cutting the Lions' lead to 2-1.
The Lions locked up their first conference victory of the season with a thrilling 29-27 decision in the fourth.
J'ENa Baker led all Nichols with a match-high 16 kills, 11 digs and four aces while Sabrina Boermeester registered 15 digs and nine kills.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to the court on Homecoming weekend October 15 to face off against Curry.
