WORCESTER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to Worcester Polytechnic Institute before prevailing 3-0 over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Saturday afternoon at Harrington Auditorium on the campus of WPI.
The Lions move to 4-14 on the year with the outcomes while the Engineers improve to 16-4 overall and the Buccaneers sink to 4-18.
Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) finished with 12 kills and six blocks on the day. Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) registered 10 kills while Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) racked up 32 assists. Defensively, Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) posted 21 digs and Monica Ly (Quincy, Mass.) recorded 18 digs.
In the opening contest of the tri-match, Eastern Nazarene absorbed a 3-0 defeat to WPI.
The hosts cruised to a 25-15 win in the first frame before coasting to a 25-10 victory in the second.
The Engineers collected their fifth-consecutive non-conference win with a 25-15 decision in the third set.
The Lions bounced back in their final match of the day to down Mass. Maritime in straight sets.
Eastern Nazarene posted a 25-18 victory in the first game to establish a 1-0 lead.
The Lions edged the Buccaneers 25-20 in the second before securing a 25-18 win in the third to lock up the match, snapping a 10-match skid.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to battle Nichols in the first-ever meeting between the two teams October 11.
