Women’s Volleyball Absorbs 3-1 Loss at Lesley
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's volleyball team endured its first setback of the season Wednesday evening, falling at Lesley 3-1 in non-conference play.
The Lions move to 2-1 on the year while the Lynx improve to 2-2 overall.
Senior Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) racked up 17 kills on the night to go with three service aces. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) notched six kills and nine digs while Annie Heller (Hudson, N.H.) finished with five kills. Oksana DiCamillo (Eighty-Four, Pa.) paced the team with 17 digs while Viviana Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) registered 12 digs and Courtney McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted 10 digs. Junior setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) recorded 26 assists on the night.
Eastern Nazarene narrowly fell in the opening set 25-23 before Lesley doubled its lead with a 25-20 win in the second frame.
The Lions clawed back to cut the deficit to 2-1 after prevailing 25-21 in the third game.
The Lynx clinched the victory with a 25-16 decision in the fourth set.
"I am really proud of the way the team stuck with Lesley. Lesley is a great defensive team and I believe we matched their intensity in the back row," said first-year head coach Kaylee Hewitt. "I have no doubt we will continue to get stronger from an attacking point of view and be able to piece together a tough offense.Overall, we got better tonight and that is great to see."
Up next, Eastern Nazarene heads to UMass-Dartmouth for a tri-match September 10. The Lions will take on the host Corsairs before squaring off against Lasell.
