Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Setback at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College volleyball team absorbed a 3-1 loss on the road at Gordon Saturday afternoon.
The Lions sink to 3-22 overall and 1-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the result. The Fighting Scots improve to 11-13 on the season and 1-6 in league play with the victory.
Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.Va.) posted a team-best 16 kills while adding 10 digs and four aces. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with seven kills, 16 digs and a pair of aces. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) posted 14 digs and six kills on the day.
Oksana DiCamillo (Nottingham Township, Pa.) paced the visitors with 17 digs in the match. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) recorded 30 assists, eight digs and three aces. Jaclyn Teed (Lansdale, Pa.) notched three kills and two solo rejections.
The home team prevailed in the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, to own a 2-0 lead.
Eastern Nazarene clawed back into the match with a 25-20 win in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Gordon rolled to a 25-12 decision in the fourth frame to secure its first conference victory of the year.
Jessica Burdick led Gordon with 11 kills while Laura Schmidt and Faith Gerdes each tallied 10. Maggie Risma racked up a match-high 32 digs for the Fighting Scots.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will visit Salve Regina October 28 for the final conference match of the 2014 campaign.
