Volleyball Swept in CCC Opener by University of New England
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to the University of New England Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The Lions slide to 1-12 on the season and 0-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Nor'easters improve to 3-8 overall and 1-0 in league play with the win.
Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.Va.) posted a team-best seven kills in the match while adding six digs. Jaclyn Teed (Lansdale, Pa.) and Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) each notched a pair of kills for the hosts.
Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with eight assists and six digs. Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) chipped in with five assists and a pair of digs. Oksana DiCamillo (Notttingham Township, Pa.) led Eastern Nazarene with eight digs on the night.
The University of New England captured the opening set 25-11 to take a one-set lead.
The guests doubled their lead to 2-0 with a 25-15 win in the second frame.
The Nor'easters closed out the match with a 25-17 decision in the third to lock up their first conference victory.
Leah Janelle and Grayson Szczepaniak each tallied seven kills for the University of New England. Rachel McGahie and Courtney Lambrese both added six kills.
Nikki Mathewson paced the Nor'easters with 11 digs while Brooke Gibbons recorded 27 assists.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene visits Wentworth September 30 for a Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt.
