NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches Friday at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. The Lions suffered a 3-0 setback to the host Corsairs before falling to Framingham State 3-0.
The Lions stand at 1-6 overall heading into the second day of competition at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. UMass-Dartmouth and Framingham State each improved to 1-1 and 4-1, respectively.
Eastern Nazarene was led by Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.Va.) with 22 kills, 22 digs and five aces on the day. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with 19 kills and 27 digs. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) recorded 44 assists while adding 21 digs in the two-match span.
Defensively, Kayla Dean (Lansdale, Pa.) posted 25 digs while Oksana DiCamillo (Nottingham Township, Pa.) collected 23 for the Lions.
In the opening match of the tournament, Eastern Nazarene battled hard against UMass-Dartmouth. The Corsairs edged the guests 25-23 in the first two frames before holding off the Lions in the third set 25-21 to clinch the win.
Eastern Nazarene dropped the first set to Framingham State by just four points, 25-21. The Rams cruised to a 25-13 victory in the second set before downing the Lions 25-20 in the third.
Eastern Nazarene will close out the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with contests against Regis and Norwich September 6.
