Volleyball Falls to Regis in Home-Opener, 3-1
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Regis in the first home match of the season Wednesday evening at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
The loss pushes the Lions to 1-4 on the year while the Pride improves to 3-2 overall with the win.
Eastern Nazarene was led by Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.Va.) with 12 kills, seven digs and six service aces. Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) notched six kills, five digs and a pair of aces on the night. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) doled out 22 assists to go with four digs in the match.
Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) led the home side defensively, racking up 11 digs while also adding three kills.
Regis edged the Lions in the opening frame, 27-25, to grab a 1-0 lead. The home side rebounded to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 victory in the second set.
The visitors reclaimed a 2-1 advantage after squeezing by Eastern Nazarene 25-23. The Pride closed out the victory with a 25-16 win in the clinching fourth set.
Regis was led by Nicole Connolly with 11 kills and 16 digs while Sydney Trusty added eight kills. Tina Lathrop finished with 29 assists and five aces for the Pride.
The Lions return to action September 5 when they compete at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. Eastern Nazarene will take on the host Corsairs and Framingham State on the first day before wrapping up the weekend with non-conference tilts against Regis and Norwich September 6.
