WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team endured a 3-0 loss to Regis before securing a 3-0 victory over Becker to close out play at the Regis College Pride Invitational Saturday.
The Lions progress to 1-3 on the year with the results. Regis improved to 2-2 overall while Becker fell to 1-3.
Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) registered a team-best 26 kills on the day to go with 20 digs. Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) posted six kills, six service aces and four blocks while Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) finished with five kills and 15 digs.
Setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) accumulated 35 assists in the two-match span while adding 13 digs, five aces and three kills.
In the opening match of the day, Eastern Nazarene was edged in the first set by the Pride 26-24. The hosts cruised to a 25-9 win in the second frame before capturing the match with a 25-13 decision in the third.
The Lions bounced back in the final match of the tournament against Becker, prevailing in straight sets.
Eastern Nazarene claimed the first stanza 25-20 and doubled its lead to 2-0 with a 25-10 victory in the second. The Lions wrapped up their first win of the fall by triumphing in the third set 25-23.
Jenkins was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion on the weekend. The senior paced the Lions with 48 kills in the tournament.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will host Regis September 3 in the first home match of the 2014 season at the Lahue Physical Education Center.
