WESTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team suffered a pair of setbacks Friday at the Regis Invitational. The Lions endured a 3-1 loss to Gordon before falling to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 3-0.
Eastern Nazarene moves to 0-2 on the year while the Fighting Scots progress to 1-1 and the Engineers rise to 2-0 overall.
Senior Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) paced the Lions with 22 kills while adding 11 digs and five aces. Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) notched a team-high 18 digs and 10 kills. Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) registered 34 assists and served up four aces. Rookie Oksana DiCamillo (Nottingham Township, Pa.) posted 16 digs in her collegiate debut and Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) finished with five kills, five aces and four blocks.
In the opening bout of the day, the Lions claimed the first set against Gordon 25-22. The Fighting Scots battled back to level the match at one set per side with a 25-17 win in the second frame.
Gordon edged Eastern Nazarene in the final two sets, 25-22 and 25-23, to clinch the match.
In the final match of the evening, MIT swept the Lions in three sets. The Engineers prevailed 25-17, 25-9 and 25-14.
Eastern Nazarene will look to chalk up its first victory of the season with a pair of matches to close out the Regis Pride Invitational August 30.
