QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene volleyball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center. The Lions downed Suffolk 3-1 before sweeping the Massachusetts Maritime Academy 3-0.
With the wins, Eastern Nazarene improved to 9-12 overall. Suffolk blanked Mass. Maritime to move to 9-0 on the year while the Buccaneers slide to 2-16.
Senior Cayla Clinkscale (Winchendon, Mass.) paced the hosts with 24 kills, 18 digs and seven aces on the day. Kortney Jenkins (Bunker Hill, W.V.) tallied 20 kills and 10 digs in the two matches while Hannah Welsh (Derry, N.H.) chipped in with 20 digs and 15 kills.
Vanessa Pascal (Marlborough, Mass.) recorded 13 digs and Sam Losano (Elverta, Calif.) finished with 11 digs. Rookie setter Lauryl Berger (Laurel, Del.) notched 65 assists and added four services aces.
In the opening match of the day, Eastern Nazarene edged Suffolk 27-25 in the first set before the visitors leveled the contest at 1-1 with a 26-24 decision in the second. The Lions responded with a 25-21 victory in the third.
The home team closed out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth game.
Eastern Nazarene cruised to a 25-8 victory in the opening set and a 25-7 win in the second. The Lions prevailed 25-13 in the third to secure their second victory of the day.
In the middle match of the tri-match, Suffolk claimed the first frame 25-19 and doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a 25-14 victory in the second game. The Rams sealed the win with a 25-10 decision in the third.
Savannah Carpenter led Suffolk with 26 kills on the afternoon while Colbey Kennedy registered 26 digs.
The Buccaneers were led by Emily Calnan with four kills while Michaela Garrity posted three kills and eight digs. Libero Stephanie O'Connor racked up a team-best 14 digs for Mass. Maritime.
