Women’s Track & Field Places Fifth at CCC Championships
PORTSMOUTH, R.I.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's track and field team capped off its first year of competition with a fifth-place at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships Saturday hosted by Roger Williams.
The Lions' throwers shined at the meet with three top-five finishes, headlined by Joanna Joseph (Brockton, Mass.) claiming first in the shot put with a toss of 10.37 meters. Sarah Iheduru (Providence, R.I.) captured third in the discus with a mark of 25.21 meters and also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 8.62 meters.
Michelle Detwiler (Elkhart, Ind.) grabbed second in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 4.75 meters. She also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a personal-record of 13.77 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 28.41.
Jael Bourque (Nashua, N.H.), Karen Diaz (Gaithersburg, Md.), and Dezirae Maffit (Aurora, Ill.) all competed in the 1,500-meter run for Eastern Nazarene while Moesha Daniel (Chaguanas, Trinidad & Tobago) and Sabrina Barreto (Hyde Park, Mass.) battled in the 100-meter dash.
Roger Williams edged Salve Regina by half a point to clinch the CCC crown. Gordon finished third with 82 total points, Nichols finished fourth with 37.5 points, and Eastern Nazarene scored 34 points to take fifth.
