Women’s Tennis Triumphs 6-3 at Albertus Magnus
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team topped Albertus Magnus 6-3 Friday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 2-3 on the year and 2-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with the win. The Falcons fall to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in league competition with the result.
The visitors grabbed a 2-1 edge with a pair of doubles victories.
Jenna Schlosser (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Kari Bollinger (Alton Bay, N.H.) downed Julianna Sigut and Annamaria DeLucia 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles position.
Krista Signs (Mashpee, Mass.) and Mya Landry (Derry, N.H.) bested Giana Cagna and Bailey Mitchell-Warren at the No. 3 slot 8-2.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) and Katie Cawthorne (Norwell, Mass.) dropped an 8-1 decision at the top spot to JuJu Oliver and Mariah Mandulak.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up four singles wins to lock up its second conference victory of the season.
Busila outlasted Oliver in a three-set showdown at the No. 1 singles position. After dropping the opening set 6-4, the junior captured the second set 6-4 before prevailing 6-2 in the third.
Bollinger posted a 6-3, 7-5 win at the third singles spot over Naomi Rose Allen.
Cawthorne collected her team-leading fourth singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Sigut at the No. 4 slot.
Signs cruised past Sabrinna Accioly 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 position to earn her first singles victory of the fall.
Schlosser suffered a 6-0, 6-0 setback at the second spot to Mandulak and Madison Rearick (Londonderry, N.H.) absorbed a 6-3, 7-5 loss to Cagna in the fifth singles match.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene hosts Gordon September 27 in a non-conference match.
