Women’s Tennis Edges Lesley 5-4, Nets First GNAC Win
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team earned a narrow 5-4 victory over Lesley Wednesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with the win. The Lynx fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in league action with the result.
The home team chalked up three doubles victories to establish a 3-0 advantage.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) and Katie Cawthorne (Norwell, Mass.) topped Brooke Whitten and Morgan Anderson in a tiebreaker to claim an 8-7 win at the top doubles spot.
Mary Boucher (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Kari Bollinger (Alton Bay, N.H.) rolled past Joselyn Martinez and Annie Dai 8-2 at the No. 2 slot.
Jenna Schlosser (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Mya Landry (Derry, N.H.) breezed by Jordan Blair and Noelle Simonelli 8-0 at the third position.
Eastern Nazarene collected a pair of singles victories to secure its first conference win of the year.
Cawthorne cruised past Dai at the No. 4 position 6-1, 6-1 while Boucher posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Brenna Peterson at the No. 5 spot.
Schlosser, Bollinger, and Krista Signs (Mashpee, Mass.) fell in straight sets at the second, third, and sixth singles spots, respectively.
Busila absorbed a three-set loss at the No. 1 position to Whitten. Busila captured the first set 6-1 before Whitten battled back to claim the second 6-4 and the third 6-2.
