Women’s Tennis Tripped Up by Thomas in Season-Opener, 5-4
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team absorbed a narrow 5-4 loss to Thomas in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions slip to 0-1 on the year with the setback while the Terriers improve to 2-0 overall.
The visitors claimed a pair of doubles wins to grab a 2-1 edge.
Kari Bollinger (Alton Bay, N.H.) and Mary Boucher (Whitinsville, Mass.) notched the home team's lone doubles victory, prevailing 8-1 at the No. 3 position over Cassidy Hamm and Renee Rossi.
Katie Cawthorne (Norwell, Mass.) and Jenna Schlosser (Bridgewater, Mass.) dropped an 8-2 decision at the top spot to Kiara Goggin and Lauren Smith.
Mya Landry (Derry, N.H.) and Krista Signs (Mashpee, Mass.) fell at the No. 2 slot to Magan Williams and Riley Pierce, 8-1.
The two teams split the six singles matches as Thomas eked out a 5-4 victory.
Bollinger earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 singles position over Williams while Cawthorne cruised past Hamm 6-0, 6-0 at the fifth spot. Delaney Walker (Nampa, Idaho) posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory at the No. 6 slot in her collegiate tennis debut.
Schlosser suffered a 6-1, 7-6 setback at the top singles spot against Goggin. Madison Rearick (Londonderry, N.H.) fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 position to Smith. Boucher endured a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Pierce in the fourth singles match.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene hosts Regis in the first Great Northeast Athletic Conference match of the fall.
