Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season with 8-1 Win at Suffolk
BELMONT, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team concluded the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Suffolk Saturday at Belmont Hill School.
The Lions improve to 10-2 on the year and 6-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) with their sixth-consecutive win. The Rams drop to 1-11 overall and 1-6 in conference competition with the result.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) edged Ilda Ascic and Kendall Smith 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) notched an 8-3 win over Jordan Miller and Bianca Prescott at the second doubles position.
Biondi downed Ascic 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles slot to secure her sixth victory in a row.
Hubel cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Smith in her first match of the season at the No. 2 singles position.
Jimenez earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot over Miller to climb to 11-1 in singles action on the fall.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) rolled past Prescott 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 4 position to claim her seventh-consecutive singles win.
Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision in the fifth singles match to Barbara Consales.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will make its second-straight trip to the GNAC semifinals October 19.
