Women’s Tennis Prevails at Bridgewater State, 7-2
BRIDGEWATER, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team notched a 7-2 non-conference victory at Bridgewater State Thursday afternoon.
The Lions elevate to 6-2 on the season with the win while the Bears fall to 3-6 overall.
The visitors gathered two doubles victories to take a 2-1 lead.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) doubled up Sailor Nordstrom and Emma Mills 8-4 at the No. 1 position.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) topped Angelique Gray and Rachel Tarantino at the second spot 8-2.
Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) and Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.) dropped a narrow 8-6 decision at the No. 3 slot to Olivia Sweeney and Vanessa Rosa.
Eastern Nazarene collected five singles wins to net its second-straight victory.
Biondi downed Nordstrom at the top singles spot 6-3, 6-1 while Ruttkowski remained undefeated in singles action with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sweeney at the No. 2 slot.
Hubel outlasted Mills in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the third singles position. After claiming the first set 6-2, the rookie conceded the second frame 6-4. Hubel bounced back in the super-tiebreaker to edge Mills 10-6.
Jimenez improved to 7-1 in singles matches on the year with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot over Rosa.
Busila topped Gray in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the fifth singles match. After coming up short in a tie-breaker in the first set, Busila battled back to capture the second 6-4. The rookie cruised to a 10-4 decision in the super-tiebreaker to earn her third-consecutive singles victory.
Grantham suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback at the No. 6 position against Tarantino.
