Women’s Tennis Triumphs 6-3 at Gordon
WENHAM, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team collected a 6-3 victory at Gordon Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions improve to 2-0 on the season with the win while the Fighting Scots fall to 2-2 overall.
The visitors claimed two doubles victories to construct a 2-1 edge.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Magdalena Hubel (Berlin, Germany) edged Anne Carsey and Madison West 8-6 at the top doubles spot.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) topped Emily Ontiveros and Abigail Graves at the No. 2 position 8-3.
Makayla Grantham (Apalachian, N.Y.) and Maria Busila (Malaga, Spain) dropped an 8-1 decision at the third slot to Anna Mullane and Meli Markarian.
Eastern Nazarene netted four singles wins to secure its second-straight victory.
Biondi rolled pat Carsey at the No. 1 singles position 6-1, 6-0 while Ruttkowski cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at the second spot against West.
Hubel defeated Ontiveros 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot and Jimenez breezed by Graves 6-1, 6-0 in the fifth singles match.
Busila absorbed a 6-0, 6-0 loss at the No. 4 position to Mullane and Grantham fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot to Markarian.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns home to square off against Salem State September 12.
