Women’s Tennis Caps Off Spring Break Trip with Loss to Milligan
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Milligan in its final match in the Palmetto State Friday.
The Lions slip to 12-4 on the year with the result while the Buffaloes improve to 8-3 overall.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) topped Chessa Jones and Minda Martin 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) dropped an 8-5 decision at the second slot to Lexie Hill and Karson Light.
Karla Polanco (Revere, Mass.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) fell 8-1 to Mackenzie Grady and Marlaina Peterson at the No. 3 spot.
Ruttkowski posted Eastern Nazarene's lone singles victory, prevailing 6-3, 7-6 at the No. 2 singles position over Jones.
Biondi fell in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the top singles spot against Hill. After dropping the first frame 6-1, Biondi bounced back to claim the second set 6-4 before Hill responded with a 10-6 decision in the super-tiebreaker.
Duval, Jimenez, Sherrill, and Polanco all suffered straight-sets losses at the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles positions, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene hosts Gordon April 9 in the final match of the 2018-19 campaign.
