Women’s Tennis Scores 6-3 Win Over St. John Fisher
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over St. John Fisher Tuesday afternoon in the Palmetto State.
The Lions elevate to 12-2 on the year with the win while the Cardinals fall to 9-5 overall.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) collected their 12th victory at the No. 1 doubles position, downing Kaili Saffran and Cassidy Bell 8-2.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) posted their second-straight win at the second doubles spot, topping Caroline Seaberg and Mikayla Santulli 8-1.
Karla Polanco (Revere, Mass.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) suffered an 8-5 setback to Grace Peter and Zuzanna Pociecha at the third slot.
Biondi rolled past Saffran 6-2, 6-3 at the top singles position to earn her 10th singles victory of the year.
Ruttkowski prevailed in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 2 slot to claim her team-leading 14th win of the year. Ruttkowski captured the first set 7-5 before Bell leveled the match with a 6-4 victory in the second frame. Ruttkowski edged Bell 10-7 in the super-tiebreaker.
Duval notched her 11th singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-0 decision at the third spot against Seaberg while Jimenez won by retirement at the No. 4 position.
Sherrill and Polanco fell in straight sets at the fifth and sixth singles matches, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene will take on Methodist March 7.
