Biondi, Duval, Ruttkowski Garner All-GNAC Women’s Tennis Accolades
WINTHROP, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team earned four All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) nods in its first year as a member of the league, announced the conference office Monday.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) were both tabbed to the All-GNAC first team in singles play while Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) collected All-GNAC second team singles honors. Duval and Ruttkowski combined to claim All-GNAC second team doubles accolades and Duval was also named to the All-GNAC Sportsmanship Team.
Biondi tallied a 9-1 record this season, playing all 10 matches at the No. 1 singles position. She compiled a 5-1 record in singles play against conference opponents.
Ruttkowski posted an unblemished 12-0 singles mark on the year, playing primarily at the No. 2 singles spot. The sophomore rattled off seven victories in league matches and dropped just one set all season.
Duval finished the fall with a 9-2 record in singles action, playing primarily at the third singles slot. The senior collected a 5-1 mark in conference competition.
Eastern Nazarene's No. 1 doubles tandem of Duval and Ruttkowski concluded the fall with a 10-1 record, including a 4-1 mark in league play.
The Lions posted a 10-2 overall record and finished the regular season with a 6-1 league mark to clinch the No. 2 seed. Eastern Nazarene reached the GNAC Tournament semifinals and dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to third-seeded Johnson & Wales. Duval was tabbed to the All-Tournament team, announced the league office Sunday evening after the conclusion of the GNAC Tournament championship match.
