Women’s Tennis Surges Past Saint Joseph, 8-1
WEST HARTFORD, Conn.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team captured its ninth-consecutive victory with an 8-1 win at Saint Joseph (Conn.) Thursday afternoon.
The Lions stays undefeated at 9-0 on the year and remains atop the GNAC standings with a 5-0 mark. The Bluejays slide to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in league competition with the result.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) topped Lucy Roberge and Ashley Savino 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) prevailed 8-4 at the second position over Leah Nguyen and Domonique Carnot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) earned an 8-1 win at the No. 3 slot over Carolyn Callahn and Emily McAllister.
Biondi bested Roberge 6-3, 6-2 at the top singles position. Ruttkowski notched her team-leading ninth singles victory with a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the No. 2 slot against Nguyen.
Jimenez claimed her third win of the season at the third singles position with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Savino.
Arretche cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 slot against Carnot while Sherrill defeated Callaham 6-, 7-5 at the fifth spot.
Tubbs dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 6 position to Jessica McAllister.
