Red-Hot Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Emerson, 7-2
QUINCY, Mass.- The undefeated Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team scored a 7-2 non-conference victory over Emerson Saturday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Eastern Nazarene Lions climb to 8-0 on the year with the win while the Emerson Lions fall to 1-1 overall.
The home side swept the three doubles matches to construct a 3-0 lead.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) topped Rachel Scalera and Eliana Flores-Barber 8-4 at the No. 1 double spot.
Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) and Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) rolled past Alex Weingarten and Annie Woodbury 8-2 at the second position.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) clipped Cassia Burns and Mackenzie Swaney at the third slot 8-5.
The hosts collected four singles victories to lock up their eighth-straight win.
Biondi cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the top singles position over Woodbury while Ruttkowski claimed a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No. 2 slot to collect her team-leading eighth singles win.
Duval breezed by Scalera at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-0 to notch her team-best eighth victory in singles competition.
Jimenez netted a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 4 position over Jolin Cheng.
Arretche and Sherrill absorbed straight-set losses at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to GNAC play October 2 at home against Johnson & Wales (R.I.).
