Women’s Tennis Coasts Past Curry for Sixth-Straight Win
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team collected its sixth victory in a row with an 8-1 decision against Curry Monday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions climb to 6-0 overall to remain undefeated on the year while the Colonels dip to 0-7.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) posted an 8-2 win at the No. 1 doubles position over Sidara Cash-Sortwell and Hannah Faghan.
Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) topped Kelsie Merrill and Samantha Gilbert 8-1 at the second spot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) netted an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 slot against Skylar Lewis and Rachel Lawlor.
Ruttkowski rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top singles position over Sortwell to tally her team-leading sixth win of the season.
Duval cruised past Faghan 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 slot to improve to 6-0 on the fall in singles action.
Jimenez downed Alison Daigle 6-1, 6-1 in her first match of the season at the No. 3 spot.
Arretche claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at the fourth position against Merrill.
Sherrill recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 slot over Gilbert.
Karla Polanco (Revere, Mass.) fell in three sets to Hollie Wallace at the sixth singles position in her first singles match of the year. Polanco dropped the first set 6-3 and battled back to capture the second 6-1. In the deciding third frame, Wallace edged Polanco 6-4.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play September 27 at Albertus Magnus.
