Unbeaten Women’s Tennis Soars Past Simmons 9-0
BRIGHTON, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team coasted to its fourth-consecutive win Friday, a 9-0 victory at Simmons.
The Lions elevate to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with the win. The Sharks slide to 1-5 on the year and 0-1 in league matches.
The visitors rattled off three doubles wins to capture a 3-0 lead.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) netted their fourth doubles victory of the season, prevailing 8-2 at the top position against Nickie Nguyen and Marissa Johnson.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) topped Paula Rios and Michelle Medici 8-2 at the No. 2 spot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) downed Sarah Mariski and Megan McKeever at the third slot 8-3.
Eastern Nazarene posted six singles victories to secure the sweep.
Biondi cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nguyen at the No. 1 singles position to improve to 4-0 on the year.
Ruttkowski collected her team-leading fourth singles victory with a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the No. 2 slot against Johnson.
Duval notched her fourth-straight singles win as she bested Rios 6-0, 6-3 at the third spot.
Jimenez triumphed 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 4 position against Medici while Arretche earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Carrie St. Peter at the fifth singles spot.
Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) picked up a straight-sets victory at the No. 6 slot against Sabrina Brown, 6-4,6-2.
