Women’s Tennis Bests Salem State 6-3 in Home-Opener
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team topped Salem State 6-3 in the first home match of the season Friday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions climb to 3-0 on the year with the victory while the Vikings fall to 1-1 overall.
The hosts established a 2-1 edge with a pair of wins in doubles action.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) clipped Madeline Allaire and Jenna Jarman 9-8 at the top doubles spot.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Jacquelin Arretche (Los Banos, Calif.) posted an 8-3 victory over Anastasia Startasia and Caroline Robitaille at the No. 2 slot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) dropped an 8-4 decision at the No. 3 position to Meredith Macdonald and Kristin Klimowicz.
Eastern Nazarene notched four singles wins to clinch its third-straight victory.
Biondi battled past Startasia 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles spot and Ruttkowski rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position against Allaire.
Duval downed Robitaille 6-3, 6-4 at the third slot and Arretche earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth spot over Macdonald.
Jimenez suffered a straight-sets loss at the fourth position to Jarman while Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) fell 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 6 slot to Klimowicz.
Looking ahead, the Lions resume conference play September 18 as they square off against defending-GNAC champions Johnson & Wales.
