Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Lesley 9-0 in Season-Opener
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory at Lesley Tuesday evening in the first match of the 2018 campaign.
The Lions improve to 1-0 on the year while the Lynx dip to 0-3 overall.
Adele Duval (Redding, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) topped Maddie Abbott and Jessica Russo 8-1 at the top doubles spot.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Annelise Sherrill (Elk Grove, Calif.) earned an 8-2 win at the No. 2 position over Theresa Pereira and Sara Stanton.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) downed Mary Pulling and Annie Dai 8-4 at the third slot.
Biondi breezed by Abbott 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position while Ruttkowski coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the second spot against Pereira.
Duval bested Russo 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 singles slot and Jimenez notched a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth position against Stanton.
Sherrill rallied past Pulling in a third-set super-tiebreaker 10-3 after dropping the first set 6-3 and claiming the second frame 7-5.
Tubbs clipped Sarah Tobin 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles position.
Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene begins league play at Simmons September 6 in its first-ever GNAC match.
