Women’s Tennis Falters at Springfield, 6-3
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback at Springfield Tuesday afternoon in its final match of the 2017-18 season.
The Lions finish with an 11-10 overall record with the result while the Pride improves to 5-2.
The home team swept the doubles matches to establish a 3-0 lead.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) dropped an 8-3 decision at the top doubles position to Cara Freadman and Emily Etter.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) narrowly fell at the second spot 9-7 to Melissa Parrish and Addie Kendall.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) absorbed an 8-0 loss at the No. 3 slot to Rachel Litchfield and Rachel Ahlmeyer.
The two teams split the six singles matches as Springfield secured its third-consecutive victory.
Biondi claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at the top singles position against Freadman.
Ruttkowski outlasted Etter in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the second slot. After cruising to a 6-1 victory in the first set and dropping the second 6-0, Ruttkowski stormed past Etter 10-2 in the super-tiebreaker.
Duval downed Litchfield 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot to collect her team-leading 16th singles victory of the year.
Steelman fell 7-5, 6-4 at the fourth position to Kendall while Jimenez and Cressman suffered straight-set losses at the fifth and sixth singles slots.
