Women’s Tennis Clipped by Baldwin Wallace, 7-2
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback to Baldwin Wallace Tuesday afternoon at the Evian Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Lions dip to 11-7 on the year with the loss while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-4 overall.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) endured an 8-3 setback at the No. 1 doubles spot to Imani Robinson and Jayde Robinson.
Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Ashtyn Morris and Becca Liebler at the No. 2 slot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) fell at the third position to Shannon Finkenthal and Kathleen Moser 8-5.
In the No. 1 singles match, Ruttkowski's opponent retired in the second set as the rookie picked up her 11th singles win of the season.
Duval downed Imani Robinson 6-1, 6-4 at the second slot to notch her team-leading 15th singles victory of the year.
Steelman fell at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-4 to Morris. Cressman absorbed a 6-2, 6-3 loss at the No. 4 position to Liebler and Jimenez suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback at the fifth slot to Finkenthal.
Tubbs dropped a hard-fought match at the No. 6 position, falling in a third-set super-tiebreaker. After conceding the first set to Kayla Eeg 6-4, Tubbs bounced back to claim the second 6-4. In the super-tiebreaker, Eeg edged Tubbs 10-8.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene returns to the courts March 8 to face NAIA foe William Woods.
