Women’s Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision to Roger Williams Monday
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback to Roger Williams Monday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions sink to 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Hawks improve to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in league competition with the win.
The visitors seized a 3-0 lead after collecting three doubles victories.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) narrowly fell 8-6 at the top position to Julia Akerman and Kathryn Hughes.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) absorbed an 8-3 loss to Jessica Magliato and Heidi Martin at the No. 2 spot.
Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) and Alecia Tubbs (Rochester, N.Y.) fell to Allie Grinavic and Ali Stankiewicz at the third slot.
The two teams split the six singles matches as Roger Williams secured its fourth conference win of the fall.
Biondi won by retirement after capturing the opening set 6-1 at the top singles position.
Duval rallied to prevail in a third-set super-tiebreaker at the No. 3 spot against Stankiewicz. After dropping the first set 6-0, Duval stormed back to claim the second set 6-4 before edging Stankiewicz in the super-tiebreaker 11-9.
Steelman earned a 7-6, 10-5 victory at the fourth singles slot against Grinavic.
Ruttkowski, Jimenez, and Tubbs all dropped straight-set decisions at the second, fifth, and sixth positions, respectively.
