Women’s Tennis Sweeps Lesley in Non-League Action
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team blanked Lesley 9-0 Thursday afternoon at the ENC Tennis Courts.
The Lions improve to 4-1 on the year with the win while the Lynx fall to 2-3 overall.
The home team rolled to three doubles victories to post a 3-0 lead heading into singles.
Sharon Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and Emily Ruttkowski (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany) prevailed 8-2 at the top position over Caroline Kiddie and Theresa Pereira.
Adele Duval (Reading, Calif.) and Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) cruised to an 8-3 win at the No. 2 spot over Maddie Abbott and Jessica Russo.
Jordan Cressman (Bowmanstown, Pa.) and Veronica Jimenez (Lynn, Mass.) collected an 8-3 victory at the third slot against Rachel Mingingham and Sara Stanton.
Eastern Nazarene chalked up six wins in singles play to return to the win column.
Biondi topped Kiddie at the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-1 to earn her first singles victory of the season.
Ruttkowski breezed by Abbott 6-1, 6-0 in the second spot while Duval downed Pereira at the No. 3 slot -2, 6-3.
Steelman coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fourth position against Russo.
Cressman edged Stanton at the fifth spot 7-6, 6-4 while Jimenez notched a 6-0, 7-5 win over Tea Ryder in the sixth singles match.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene resumes conference play September 23 with a road match at Western New England.
